Following graduation of Dental School, Dr. Valerin served as a teaching assistant at The Ohio State University School of Dentistry, earning 2 teaching awards,The Student Goverment Teaching Award and Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity Clinical Instructor of the year. It was then he rediscovered an interest for hospital based advanced dentistry and teaching. This brought Dr. Valerin and his family to North Carolina where he served as Chief Resident at Carolinas Medical Center Department of Oral Medicine. During this time he received the Lester Burket Award in the clinical category for his research on medications that affect bleeding after dental extractions during the Oral Medicine Symposium in Puerto Rico in 2005.
His post doctoral training has taken him and his family to UNC College of Dentistry, Chapel Hill, North Carolina for advanced training in radiology, the Navy Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland for advanced training in facial pain and research at the National Institute of Health . He also received advanced training in hospital dentistry at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Glasgow, Scotland.
Once completing his post doctoral training, Dr. Valerin and his family moved to Illinois where he served several years as a professor at the University of Illinois Dental School in Chicago. With Dr. Valerins hospital training and knowledge this has given him an edge to provide the best in comprehensive dentistry for the entire family as well as the safest methods in sedation dentistry for those with dental anxiety. He has now enjoyed private practice for over 12 years. He loves the relationships he has built with his patients and their families through private practice.
The decision to relocate to Peoria, Illinois was greatly influenced by the fact that his family has better access to health care for his daughter as well as allowing him the oppotunity to continue his teaching career part time while enjoying private practice. Dr. Valerin is a current faculty member at OSF Saint Francis General Practice Residency Program for General Dentists. He is excited to have the opportunity to pass along the knowledge he has gathered over the years spent at a Level 1 trauma center during his training career as well as his experience providing comprehensive dentistry through private practice.
Dr. Valerin has volunteered twice with his wife for the Illinois Mission of Mercy program providing free dental care to thousands in need and plans to continue this tradition, he was part of a missionary team providing dental care to under developed villages in Honduras, he volunteers for Dental Lifeline of Illinois and previously volunteered for the LaSalle County Health Department, American Red Cross and Give Kids a Smile Day. He is an active member in the Peoria District Dental Society, Illinois State Dental Society, American Dental Association, American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce, a Certified BLS Instructor through the American Heart Association, received the latest up to date training on OSHA/ HIPPA regulations and participates regulary in continuing education courses nationwide.
Dr. Valerin and his wife, Kristy, have three children. They enjoy the outdoors, traveling, deep sea fishing,Ohio State football games, and are currently learning to golf. I also enjoy offshore ocean racing and like sailing the Caribbean. However, any time spent enjoying friends and family are the best!
My name is Amanda, I joined the Valerin Dental family in August 2014. I immediately felt at home with Dr. Valerin and the entire team. I was thrilled to become an employee and an official part of the family. I love giving the patients a great experience. I have the privilege of being a treatment coordinator and also a patient of Dr. Valerin myself. I love the fun upbeat atmosphere of our office. I have found a home at Valerin Dental. It is an honor to welcome patients into this environment everyday! I live in Washington IL. With my husband Couri and our 3 children Darius, Aaliyah and Amiyah. In my free time I enjoy watching baseball, shopping and vacationing at the beach!
I grew up in a rural community outside of the Peoria area. I studied dental hygiene in college and have worked in the dental field for 15 years.
Patient care has always been my main focus in my career and I have found such a wonderful team to be a part of with Valerin Dental. Outside of work, I am the mother to four fantastic boys. We enjoy taking in the art scene in Peoria and attending live music events whenever we can.
I started in the Dental field through the Co-Op program my Senior year in High School and have loved creating new smiles ever since. Helping people to feel good about themselves . I still love it after all these years. I Have been blessed with a wonderful husband, and a wonderful family. My 5 children have all chosen amazing spouses and our family continues to grow with 5 grand children. Also 2 nephews that we consider to be a part of our crew. The Lord has blessed us greatly. I Love being part of this Dental team.
Alex has been a Dental Assistant since 2011 and loves it, especially dental surgeries! She is married to her high school sweetheart, Andrew. They have a son, Stanley and a golden retriever named Howie. Alex likes traveling, shopping, and spending time with family in her free time.
In 2018 I graduated from Illinois Valley Community College with my Associates in Science degree and Dental Assisting with expanded functions certificate. Soon after I began working as a dental assistant at Valerin Dental. When I’m not working I enjoy spending time with friends and family. I love traveling, drawing, and cuddling with my cat Pancakes.
I graduated from the University of Southern Indiana in 1989, and practiced in 2 children’s dental offices early in my career, but I found that I enjoy patients of all ages, so I have worked in general practice for many years. I moved to Peru in 1996 and practiced locally with with Dr.Valerin for 8 years, until he relocated to Peoria.
I enjoy the outdoors and spending time with family, friends, and our black lab, Callie. My husband, Joe, owns his own business, and my daughter is a college student at IVCC. She plans on transferring to SIU-Carbondale and will earn her bachelors’ degree in Automotive Tech.
I am extremely proud to be practicing, once again, with Dr. Valerin and our dedicated, talented team.
Deanne has been a dental hygenist for 31 years. She has worked along side Dr. Valerin for 16 of those years. Over the span of her career, she has excelled with her periodontal skills and provides training to fellow hygienists on those skills. She enjoys learning new skills, techniques, and procedures to make our patients dental experience the best it can be. Her goal for each patient is to educate and treat each patient based upon each individual’s needs. She specializes in thorough but gentle treatment and to keep you comfortable during your visit. Deanne goes above and beyond for those who have dental phobias, fears, and anxiety. Helping those to overcome these concerns, so they can develop trust again in the dental world.
Outside of the office, Deanne has been married to her husband Grant for 26 years. They have 3 children and a dog named Lola. She enjoys her outdoor gardens and fish pond. She’s crafty with a hot glue gun and enjoys home renovation projects with her husband as well. Her life mantra is, "It Is What It Is!"
Debbie is a Metamora native who attended ICC for her dental hygiene education. Twenty four of her thirty years practicing hygiene, she practiced in the Chicago suburbs.
Debbie is requested by patients for her gentle yet thorough hygiene services. Debbie has one grown son and lives with her husband Stu in Germantown Hills. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, singing at her church and hanging with her three pug dogs.
